SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
When working on the vehicle, make sure that the start switch is in the "OFF" position, set the parking brake, and chock the tires. Before working under the vehicle, always place jack stands under the frame rails to ensure the vehicle cannot drop. Failure to follow these steps can cause serious injuries or death.
Tools used when working near batteries or electrical connections must be certified to a rating of 1000 Vdc to prevent injuries from electric shock. Short circuits between components or wires must be avoided.

PROCEDURE
Make sure the work can be done safely.
Make sure the start switch is "OFF" and you have the key in your possession.
Locate the interior battery disconnect switch and turn it to the "OFF" position (Figure 2).
- Locate the exterior battery disconnect switch, select the "OFF" position and put a lock on it (Figure 3).
Locate the high-voltage battery packs and visually inspect each one to make sure they are not physically damaged.
Verify the high-voltage connector on each battery pack to make sure they are still properly in place (Figure 4)
- Make sure the bridge for the high-voltage interlock loop is properly in place on each battery pack (Figure 5).
Locate the grounding strap and make sure that both sides are still properly attached.
Inspect the Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS) connectors to make sure that they are properly tightened, and no sign of leakage is apparent (Figure 6).
- If a problem is found during the procedure, replace the defective battery pack as per RP-01-52-02-00-001 High-Voltage BMW Batteries Replacement.
