03-22 Steering system functional test
Steering gear and linkage: Check for secure mounting, no missing bolts, and no worn or loose parts.
Power steering components:
Inspect the power steering pump and reservoir condition. Ensure hoses and steering gear are in good condition and there is no leak.
Locate the hydraulic fluid reservoir attached to the firewall next to the steering column. Remove the cap and verify the hydraulic fluid level is within specifications. The hydraulic fluid should be reddish and clear, without any trace of contamination.
Steering column: Look for corrosion or unusual play of the steering shaft u-joint and slip joint.
Turning response: Start the bus to activate the hydraulic pump and turn the wheel fully left and right. Ensure smooth, responsive movement without binding or unusual noises.
